2014 Kentucky Primary: How Louisville Metro Council Races Are Shaping Up

The first results from the 2014 primary election are in and we have a pretty clear picture of what most Louisville Metro Council races will be in November.Districts 1 and 9 are expected to be quite competitive Tuesday night. We'll have updates on those races as the evening progresses. And we'll update this story with results from other competitive Metro Council races in this story.In District 3, incumbent Mary Woolridge appears sure to defeat David Whitlock—the former (controversial) Jefferson County constable—in the Democratic primary. No Republican filed for the primary.In District 5, Cheri Bryant Hamilton will likely defeat Keith Morgan in the Democratic primary. Republican John M. Owen ran unopposed in the Republican primary.In District 7, Angela Leet is considered the favorite in the Republican contest over Shawn Slone. Democrat Bruce Maples is unopposed. The winner in November will replace retiring Republican incumbent Ken Fleming.In District 11, Republican incumbent Kevin Kramer and Democratic challenger Larry Hujo, a former school board member, were unopposed. So they'll face off in November.In District 15, incumbent Democrat Marianne Butler is likely to top Blake Oliver and Khalilah V. Collins in the primary. No Republican filed for the seat.In District 17, Republican incumbent Glen Stuckel and Democrat Susan Johns were unopposed in the primary. They'll face off in November.In District 19, outgoing state Sen. Julie Denton was unopposed in the Republican primary for the Metro Council seat. She'll also have no Democratic challenger in November, since no one filed for the primary.In District 21, Democratic incumbent Dan Johnson is likely to defeat Erich Schumate and Michael Tackett. No Republican filed for the primary.In District 23, Republican incumbent James Peden was unopposed in the primary and will have no Democratic challenger in November. Similar situation in District 25, Democratic incumbent David Yates was unopposed in the primary and will have no Republican challenger in the general election.
