9 Dead in Western Kentucky House Fire

  GREENVILLE, Ky. — A hospital spokeswoman says an adult and a child were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., after a fatal fire that officials believe may have killed as many as nine people in western Kentucky.Hospital spokeswoman Dagney Stuart says she couldn't release any other information early Thursday about the pair.Greenville Assistant Fire Chief Roger Chandler says 11 people lived at the home in Muhlenberg County.Chandler said the blaze was reported at 2 a.m. CST Thursday, and crews were still at the scene four hours later.He directed other questions to Kentucky State Police spokesman Stu Recke. Recke didn't immediately return a call for comment.Greenville is in a rural area of the state, about 130 miles southwest of Louisville in the state's western coal fields.
