A new state program will advise young entrepreneurs on how they can turn a bright idea into a business plan. In June, 50 high school students will learn more about innovation and creative thinking at Georgetown College.

Liz Knapp, of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation, said she believes some of the ideas will later morph into profit-making products.

Though he pushed for its approval, Kentucky’s attorney general doesn't oppose changes to a law the General Assembly passed last year to curb prescription drug abuse and place restrictions on pain clinics.

Jack Conway said some of the complaints physicians have made about the bill have merit.

Conway said nobody wants to prevent Kentuckians who have legitimate needs for pain medications from obtaining prescriptions.

The resignation of Sen. Jim DeMint, R-Sc., could spell bad news for his soon-to-be former GOP colleagues—namely Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.,—who face re-election in 2014.

In a statement, McConnell praised DeMint's "uncompromising service," however, as BuzzFeed's John Stanton points out, DeMint has been pushing for Republicans to be more conservative for years. And as president of the Heritage Foundation, he will have an ideal seat to wage an ideological war on incumbents such as McConnell.

Vanessa Burns will lead Public Works & Assets. She is currently a staff member for the appropriations committee in the Connecticut General Assembly, and has directed public works for the District of Columbia, Evanston, Ill., and New Haven, Ct., the city said.

U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar is preparing to announce his plans for the future after spending 36 years in the Senate.

The Indiana Republican will reveal his plans during a news conference Friday afternoon at the University of Indianapolis.

The university might be part of those plans. School President Robert Manual will join Lugar at the news conference.

The second meeting of the state’s Industrial Hemp Commission will soon begin sorting through the details of its efforts to bring legalized hemp to Kentucky.

The commission will work on the details of a new legislative bill proposal, such what the bill will include and which legisators will sponsor it during the 2013 session, said the chairman, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer.

Comer says another detail will be to pick a state university to commission a new economic study of legalizing industrial hemp in Kentucky.

The Transit Authority of River City will begin offering transportation to Indiana’s River Ridge Commerce Center next month.

TARC spokeswoman Kay Stewart says service was requested by One Southern Indiana and businesses in River Ridge, namely Amazon, which set up a distribution center earlier this year.

She says the three morning and four afternoon trips scheduled will accommodate Amazon’s various shifts.

Despite experiencing one of the worse droughts in U.S. history, agriculture economists in Kentucky are projecting record cash receipts for the state’s farmers.

During their annual outlook during the Kentucky Farm Bureau conference, economists from the University of Kentucky say they think Kentucky will break the $5-billion barrier in revenues this year.

Lead economist Will Snell says high prices for many crops -- along will increased exports and insurance payouts  -- helped offset the drought for many agricultural industries in Kentucky.
