Thanks to bloggers and Twitter users with nationwide followings at last year’s IdeaFestival, students from DuPont Manual high school in Louisville garnered national acclaim for their questions for and engagement with IdeaFestival presenters. This year, their performance has been no less noteworthy. The Q&A session following Harvard Innovation Education Fellow Tony Wagner’s presentation was dominated by curious students.

Halfway through day two of IdeaFestival, organizer Kris Kimel announced that some organizations that had reserved blocks of tickets had released their reservations. So now, individual tickets to most events are available. The festival ends Saturday, and sessions run from 9 am until 5:30 pm.

Friday kicked off with two presentations featuring artists who are currently exhibiting at the Land of Tomorrow gallery at 233 West Broadway:

At the top - No one's favorite part of living in an urban area is finding a place to park your car.  On Park(ing) Day, we look at a re-designed parking system in San Francisco that may take the city one step towards a smarter, well-parked city.

Tomorrow is Bellarmine University's climate change symposium.

The day-long event (9 am to 3 pm) will feature a presentation by University of Louisville climatologist Keith Mountain, who will talk about his research on receeding glaciers. The keynote speaker is Gavin Schmidt, who's a climate scientist at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. There's also a workshop for K-12 educators, an interactive teleconference from the NASA JetPropulsion Laboratory’s Center for Climate Sciences, and a panel discussion on the biological effects of climate change.

The event is free and open to the public.

An influential Indiana lawmaker says he'll introduce legislation that would reduce penalties on people found in possession of small amounts of marijuana.

Republican state Sen. Brent Steele of Bedford plans to introduce a bill next session that would make possession of 10 grams or less an infraction, rather than a criminal misdemeanor. Ten grams is equivalent to about one-third of an ounce or roughly enough to make 20 to 30 marijuana cigarettes.

The Kentucky Department of Education is preparing the media this week for its new accountability data expected to be released next month.

The new system is meant to simplify accountability by using five main data sets to provide each district and school a score.

The data includes some the state was already using like achievement gaps, graduation rates and state test scores, but it will also include growth and new college-and-career ready standards.

Fundraising reports filed last night by the presidential campaigns show President Obama with a slight advantage in fundraising last month, while Republican Mitt Romney has the edge by some other measures.

Each candidate is raising money for his own campaign committee, plus his national party committee and a joint fundraising committee or two.

So what you see depends on what you look at.

In cash on hand, the overall Romney organization finished August with more than $168 million — that's $43 million more than the overall Obama organization.
