The Louisville men's basketball team plays for a national championship tonight—the program's first appearance in the title game since 1986. 

Denny Crum, the coach of the 1986 and 1980 championship teams, is in Atlanta for the Final Four. Naismith Hall of Fame coach retired in 2003. As this year's Cardinals prepare to play Michigan, Crum took a few moments to reflect with WFPL on what championships mean for the university and the city.

Fears Of Government Tyranny Push Some To Reject Gun Control

As the Senate returns from a two-week spring recess Monday, topping its agenda is legislation to try to curb the kind of gun violence that took the lives of 20 first-graders in Connecticut last December.

Recent polls show broad popular support for enhanced background checks and bans on military-style guns and ammunition. But many members of Congress side with gun-rights advocates who oppose such measures.

And those advocates are increasingly making the case that Americans need guns to fight government tyranny.

Louisville Cardinals to Play for Women's National Championship

The University of Louisville women’s basketball team has joined the men’s program in playing for a NCAA championship this week.

Antonita Slaughter led the fifth-seeded Cards with 18 points as U of L advanced to the title game with a 64-57 comeback victory tonight over number two seed California.

U of L will face Connecticut for the women’s championship Tuesday in New Orleans.  The Huskies defeated Notre Dame in the other national semifinal.

The U.S. Senate was scheduled to begin voting on gun control measures this week when Congress returns from recess, but Senate staffers say a bipartisan agreement has yet to be reached on universal background checks. That snarl may end up delaying a vote on gun legislation for another week, as lobbyists on both sides of the debate use the extra time to keep the pressure on.

For Some Louisville Cardinals Fans, Two Final Four Teams Means Twice the Travel

ATLANTA — The Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team will play in the NCAA tournament's title game Monday night against the Michigan Wolverines at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. And in New Orleans tonight, the Cardinal women’s basketball team plays California in a semifinal.

A federal judge has ordered the Food and Drug Administration to make all levonorgestrel-based emergency contraceptives available to younger teens without a prescription.

A federal judge ordered Friday what women's groups have failed to accomplish politically for a dozen years. He ruled that Plan B, the most commonly used morning-after birth control pill, be sold without a prescription or other restrictions to women of all ages.

Thirty-seven million Americans share about $1 trillion in student loans, according to Federal Reserve data. It's the biggest consumer debt besides mortgages, eclipsing both auto loans and credit cards. And on it grows, an appetite undiminished by the recession.
