ACT Testing Resumes Next Week for Several Kentucky Schools

Kentucky Department of Education officials say problems with the company contracted to administer one of the state’s standardized tests online have been fixed and testing will resume on Monday.

This week several states experienced problems with three separate companies contracted to administer standardized tests. All issues were related to online testing. In Kentucky, the ACT End-of-Course Exam was halted when students couldn’t connect to the test. KDE officials say around 15,000 students were trying to access the test this week. The exam covers several subject areas and students take them individually as they complete the course. The education department recommends it count for at least 20 percent of a student’s grade.Around 25 Kentucky school districts were affected, but not all districts use the online version of the test, officials say. Some districts use pencil and paper, which will also be offered to schools resuming testing next week.ACT officials assure the issue has been fixed. While Kentucky education department officials say the issue is of concern, they do say as more states shift to online test taking, the technology supporting the system will likely improve.
