Alison Lundergan Grimes 'Dodging' and 'Evading' Stance on Same-Sex Marriage Appeal, Says Independent

Independent U.S. Senate candidate Ed Marksberry is shredding Democratic contender Alison Lundergan Grimes for what he calls a "dodging" and "evading" answer on whether she support appealing a federal same-sex marriage ruling.Kentucky's top two officials—Governor Steve Beshear and Attorney General Jack Conway—disagreed on whether the state should fight a federal order that the state must recognize out-of-state marriage licenses for gay and lesbian couples.Conway said he would not appeal the ruling while Beshear said he is hiring outside counsel to do so.Asked about her views on the decision, Grimes, who is secretary of state, put out a statement saying she respected the process Conway took. But she added: "churches should not be forced to recognize anything inconsistent with their teachings.""Alison Lundergan Grimes's dodging, evading and circumventing response is another example of why I lost faith in her campaign," says Marksberry, who dropped out of the race as Democrat last year."If this is what they teach you in Law School, we’re in trouble. As I’ve said before, those who use their religious beliefs to deny others rights and liberties guaranteed in our Constitution, undermine their own freedom to worship as they believe."An Owensboro contractor, Marksberry has been an outspoken candidate in favor of gay rights even when he was a contender in the Democratic primary. He also slammed the governor for moving forward with the appeal while praising the attorney general for saying he would not."I believe (Attorney General) Jack Conway proved to be courageous, forward thinking and a passionate attorney who understands the Constitution. Governor Beshear is either suffering from dementia or is pulling a political ruse for his veto of the 'Kentucky Freedom of Religion' bill," he says.
