Formed in 2007 by Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, The Minus 5, R.E.M.) and Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate,The Miracle 3), the band The Baseball Project began as a way for a couple of super-fans – who just happened to be influential musicians – to pay homage to their favorite sport. Now, The Baseball Project is a bona-fide super-group, grown to include drummer Linda Pitmon (Zuzu's Petals) and founding members of R.E.M, bassist Mike Mills and guitarist Peter Buck.On their new album, called simply “3rd,”The Baseball Project celebrates fan obsessions like box scores and card collecting, as well as some of the game’s most compelling stories and legends. The Baseball Project plays Zanzabar tonight (doors at 8; show at 9 p.m.). The band stopped by our sister station WFPK’s studio today for a performance, and WFPL’s Erin Keane talked baseball and music with the band.
