Benefit to Celebrate the Aesthetic of Film Director Wes Anderson

A Wes Anderson-themed party will be held Saturday featuring music from the soundtracks all of Anderson’s films performed by local bands and HAY DJ, plus living dioramas and a costume contest. Anderson's films include "The Royal Tennenbaums," "The Darjeeling Limited," and "Moonrise Kingdom."All Proceeds from the event will go to non-profit Fair Event Vendors Alliance, which is dedicated to connecting the LGBT community with Louisville area wedding and event professionals who demonstrate fair treatment and non-discrimination.   Co-founder Heather Yenawine, also known as HAY DJ, says she created FEVA after she witnessed anxiety, discrimination and negative attitude from some vendors that LGBT couples experience when planning their wedding and hiring vendors. “I was participating in a wedding show and there was a lesbian couple there and they looked very uncomfortable. I was talking to a photographer friend of mine and she said, ‘Oh, I know them and they’re just hesitant to go up to vendors because they don’t know how people will react,’” Yenawine says. Yenawine says that she believes that wedding vendors are doing themselves a disservice by not embracing LGBT couples. “People aren’t processing that there’s this new wave of weddings,” says Yenawine. “As a city, if we don’t find a way to make room for the LGBT community in the wedding industry and mainstream it we might risk losing a lot of clients and a lot of community members that could enrich our wedding community.” Yenawine describes Wes Fest as being more of a musical theater experience than your standard rock 'n' roll show. The party aims to transform the New Vintage into an Anderson wonderland. Stephanie Lindsay, lead designer for the Forecastle 2013 Kentucky Bourbon Lodge, is doing the design. “Wes Fest is going to be a celebration of the films of Wes Anderson both in aesthetic and décor and in the music and soundtracks,” Yenawine says. “The overall experience of the event should be like being in a living movie, with the live dioramas in between the sets and the bands bringing the soundtracks to life." Performers include Quiet Hollers, The Fervor, Hinckley Cold Storage (featuring The Pass), Jolly Hammurabi, Diane Waters of Softcheque, Bill Petot of Whistle Peak, Nick Peay and HAY DJ. Yenawine has previously produced the Killville and Pulp Function theme parties at Glassworks. Wes Fest will be held at the New Vintage this Saturday, March 8, at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at ticketfly.com or at the door while they last.
