BOWLING GREEN — One of the country’stop public high schoolswill soon have a new leader. Western Kentucky University is looking for a new director of its Gatton Academy for Math and Science, a residential high school based at the university's Bowling Green campus. The national search is down to three finalists, all from out of state. Julia Roberts heads the Center for Gifted Studies at Gatton.  She says the new director will arrive at an exciting time as the academy grows from 120 to 200 students.  "That triggered a $10 million gift from an anonymous donor to add on to the Gatton Academy, so about a year from now, we will start construction so that Schneider Hall can accommodate about 80 more students," Roberts sayts.Dr. Tim Gott, the current Gatton director, is retiring after 29 years in education. His successor is expected to be named in about two weeks."The director of the Gatton Academy needs to relate well to the students who are here, to be a good recruiter of students, to instill confidence in parents of prospective students and to provide leadership with the staff and the faculty," Roberts says.
