Byline | Progress Kentucky; Thunder Safety; Murray State President Termination

Here are the topics covered this hour on Byline (full audio link below):At the top - Last week, the FBI launched its investigation into the secret recording of an election strategy session involving U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and his campaign staff. Two people connected with the liberal group Progress Kentucky, Shawn Reilly and Curtis Morrison, have been implicated in the taping.   There have been no arrests, but Morrison this week began a legal defense fund. WFPL's Phillip Bailey and Kentucky Public Radio's Kenny Colston share the latest developments.8:30 - The Boston Marathon bombings put the nation on edge. We talk about security plans for Thunder Over Louisville and the Kentucky Derby with WFPL’s Joseph Lord.13:40 - Last month, the board of regents at Murray State University voted not to renew the contract of university president Randy Dunn.  It has divided the board, with a vote of 7-4, and one board member subsequently resigning in protest. It was later revealed that, the day before that vote some of the regents, enough to constitute a quorum, discussed university business at a social gathering.  The attorney general ruled this week that it was a violation of the state’s open meetings law. We check in with Chad Lampe, news director and assistant station manager at WKMS Radio on the Murray State campus.19:00 - This week, we've seen a lot of breaking news. And we've seen a lot of inaccurate breaking news. It seems that with 24-hour news networks and the hunger for instant results, the potential for misinformation grows, but as Nate DiMeo explains in this edition of The Memory Palace, inaccurate reporting is nothing new.24:40 - WFPL's Rick Howlett shares his conversation with Bob Cowsill, the co-writer and narrator of a new documentary about his family’s band, the Cowsills, who scored several pop hit singles in the late 1960s. 36:30 - Erin Keane discusses some upcoming arts events, then talks with Samantha Beach, acting apprentice at Actors Theatre of Louisville and one of the audio diarists for WFPL’s just-completed Big Break series.
