Byline Today: McConnell and the Deal Ending the Shutdown, Science Standards Developments and More

This week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was criticized in the deal that ended the federal government shutdown, Rep. John Lewis stopped by the WFPL studios and there were developments in Kentucky’s adoption of new science standards. We’ll discuss these stories and more this afternoon on Byline.

WFPL’s Phillip Bailey will discuss the deal that ended the federal government shutdown and this story on $3-billion in funding for a Western Kentucky dam project that has gained national attention.

Kentucky’s adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards—which has caused some controversy this year—appears to be a “done deal,” as a leading state legislator said. Devin Katayama will discuss.

Phillip also got a chance to talk to John Lewis, the Georgia congressman and civil rights activist. Lewis was in Louisville this week to speak at the Kentucky Authors Forum.

We’ll also hear about the Louisville Story Project, a memory cafe and more.

Tune in to 89.3 or stream at WFPL.org at 1 p.m. today for Byline.
