California Chrome Wins Kentucky Derby

The favorite California Chrome is the winner of the 140th Kentucky Derby.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, California Chrome surged past the leading pack in the stretch Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Though the favorite at 5-2, the horse entered the race with an underdog storyline—bred for little money and trained by the relatively obscure 77-year-old Art Sherman.

Commanding Curve finished second and Danza finished third.
