Chane Behanan Dismissed for Louisville Cardinals Basketball Team

Chane Behanan is off the Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team—for good, it appears.Coach Rick Pitino says Behanan was dismissed by the university from the team. Pitino would not say specifically what the forward did to be kicked off the team, but he noted "this is a university policy that has been stretched to the limits." The coach said privacy laws limited what he could say about the circumstances.Behanan was suspended from the team onOct. 11 for a violation of team and university rules—again unspecified—but he returned in mid-December.Behanan was a key player in the Cardinals 2013 national championship and Pitino describes him as a "major factor" in his plans for this season.“Between the lines he gave great effort, he’s a great teammate, a wonderful young guy to be a round," Pitino says. "Away from the lines he just did not do the right things.”Behanan was not dismissed from the university and could choose to return to class, just not as a member of the basketball team, Pitino says. Behanan could transfer and play basketball at another school. Pitino says Behanan may also find an agent and begin preparing for a professional career in the U.S. or overseas.“I think even great organizations in the professional level take changes on people all the time," Pitino says. "And I think colleges would do the same thing. He is a terrific young man; great guy, who has some issues he has to deal with.”The Cardinals open American Athletic Conference play Tuesday on the road against Central Florida.
