Children's Organizations Begin Campaign to End Child Abuse This Week

Several organizations have partnered with Kosair Charities to participate in a campaign to end child abuse.

The announcement expected Tuesday comes in the middle of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Kosair Charities announced the initiative last year. Since then, Kosair president Randy Coe says the coalition has been developing a plan to measure the success of the campaign. The goal is to eradicate child abuse, which Coe acknowledges is ambitious. There are more than 18,000 Kentucky children who were victims of abuse or neglect in 2010.  Now, the group of more than 20 organizations including Home of the Innocents and Family and Children’s Place has come together to rally around the cause. The major funding partner will be Kosair Charities, which Coe says spent more than $18 million last year to fund a number of organizations in the region.  Further, he says Kosair will act as the primary funding partner. “There may be others that come on board over the next few years, certainly that’s welcome because there’s work to be done,” he says. Through its website being launched this week—faceitabuse.org—the coalition will offer providers best practices and products, and it will offer communities valuable information to help eradicate child abuse and neglect.
