Christopher Pramuk Discusses Thomas Merton and Race Relations in America

As the Festival of Faiths celebrates Thomas Merton’s 100th birthday, scholars and religious leaders will be discussing Merton's leagcy this week in Louisville. Among the speakers in this year’s festival is  Christopher Pramuk of Xavier University.  Pramuk has researched Merton’s feelings on race in America—a little known facet of Merton's writings.

"One of the things that makes Merton so compelling on race is his humility and recognition that as a white person," Pramuk said. "He's part of the culture [of racism] …and he calls himself a guilty bystander."

Pramuk is speaking at the Festival of Faiths at 7 p.m. Friday, and at 10 a.m. Saturday. More info at FestivalofFaiths.org.
