College Basketball: Louisville Cardinals Roll Over Rutgers, 92-31

The Louisville Cards have easily advanced to the semifinals of the men’s American Athletic  Conference Tournament in Memphis.

U of L crushed Rutgers 92-31 today and will play Houston Friday evening at 7:00.   Chris Jones led the Cards with 18 points, but four others also scored in double figures.

Houston upset SMU in their quarterfinal game.

The Indiana Hoosiers have been eliminated from the men’s Big Ten Tournament.  IU lost to Illinois 64-54 this afternoon in first-round play.

The Kentucky Wildcats open play Friday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Atlanta.

The Wildcats were ranked number one in the preseason AP poll, but have fallen out of the top 25 due to late-season struggles, including a 19-point loss at Florida last weekend.

UK coach John Calipari has been talking this week about mystery “tweak” he made to his offense that has given his team new optimism, but neither Calipari nor his players are saying much else about it.

“You’ll see a different team when you watch Friday.  If you know anything about basketball, you’ll know exactly what I did,” Calipari said at his regular press conference this week.

Kentucky will play LSU Friday night in the Georgia Dome.   Tipoff is at 7:00pm.
