Community Support Needed Following West Louisville Shootings

Louisville city officials say they need cooperation from the community while investigations continue into Thursday's shootings.Several community leaders met with the mayor and police Friday, to discuss steps going forward.Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad said there are three elements to the response to Thursday’s shootings. The first is the investigation. Conrad said it’s too early to discuss charges although two of the individuals who were involved are presumably still in police custody. The investigation includes the city’s narcotics unit and door to door questioning, said Conrad.“A lot of times people are going to be reluctant to open that door when they know their neighbors might be watching and we’re concerned about not giving us information in fear that they will be retaliated against themselves," he said.Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous can call the police tip line at 574-LMPD.Secondly the department will continue its increased police presence in the area.The third step includes longer-term dialog between the city and community members. West Louisville community leaders say people should be aware of the resources available to them and are asking families to step up when problems occur in the home.
