Courier-Journal Lays Off Seven Staffers, Including Managing Editor

The Courier-Journal has cut seven positions in what executives are calling a “restructuring” in its newsroom.Director of Marketing Nancy Jo Trafton declined to say which positions were eliminated, but she said no reporters were affected. Trafton said some newsroom positions will be created as part of the restructuring.Longtime Metro Editor Mike Trautmann confirmed on Twitter that his position was among those eliminated:

Managing Editor Jean Porterconfirmed in an interview with Business First that she was laid off, along with Multimedia Editor John Mura and data desk manager Mark Taflinger. The layoffs are the latest in a series of changes at the newspaper. Earlier this year, The Courier-Journal began inserting sections from USA Today, which is also owned by the Gannett Co. And former Wall Street Journal web editor Neil Budde was appointed executive editor in September, replacing retired newsroom leader Bennie Ivory.We'll have more in the coming days.
