Dalai Lama Speaks With Students on Final Day of Louisville Visit

The Dalai Lama called aggression a sign of weakness and compassion a sign of strength as the Buddhist spiritual leader spoke to a group of students in Louisville.The Nobel Laureate said today that compassion enhances a person's inner strength and self-confidence and reduces fear and distrust.The Dalai Lama spoke to a crowd at the Kentucky Center for the Arts and fielded questions from a group of Louisville-area students on the third and final day of his Louisville visit.He decried the emphasis on money and material goods. And he suggested that moral teachings, based on respect for all religions, could help reduce youth violence.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
