The Purdue University Board of Trustees made it officials today, selecting Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels to be the school’s 12th president.Daniels will assume the post when his second and final term as governor ends in January."The balance of this calendar year I will use the time not consumed by my current duties to begin the process of earning by learning.   Effective immediately, I will recuse myself from any partisan political activities or commentary," Daniels said. The vote to appoint Daniels was unanimous.  Student trustee Miranda McCormack said she was impressed by Daniels’ pledge to build the closest relationship ever between a university president and students."He’s going to be the person that’s out there in hallways with us, talking to us, like a normal person, respecting us," McCormack said with a laugh. The 63 year old Daniels will succeed France Cordova, who’s retiring effective next month.   Daniels announced last year he would not seek the Republican presidential nomination and more recently downplayed speculation that he would be a selected as the running mate for presumptive nominee Mitt Romney.
