The Hoosiers are one game away from elimination after a 5-4 loss Monday night to Mississippi State.

IU coach Tracy Smith says his team struggled to generate any offense against the Bulldogs, striking out 14 times.

Court Upholds Fines Against Indiana House Democrats Over Labor Bill Protest

The Indiana Supreme Court has upheld fines levied by state House Republicans on Democrats for their legislative walkouts over a labor bill.

In 2011, Indiana House Democrats fled to Illinois to protest a right-to-work bill that also brought union demonstrators into the House gallery, and staged another, shorter walkout in 2012, the year the bill was passed.

Cards Eliminated From College World Series, 11-4; Indiana Suffers First Series Loss

The season is over for the University of Louisville baseball team.

The Cards were eliminated from the College World Series today in Omaha, losing 11-4 to Oregon State.

The Beavers capitalized on four U of L errors and broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to stay alive in the double-elimination series.

The Cards, who lost their series opener Sunday to Indiana, finish the season with a 51-14 record.

Oregon State will play Indiana Wednesday in an elimination game. The Hoosiers fell tonight to Mississippi State, 5-4.

ACLU Sues Indiana Over Changes in Disabled Woman's Benefits

A lawsuit filed against Indiana's social services agency claims it wrongly barred a disabled woman from Medicaid waiver programs and left her without enough income to survive.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana filed the lawsuit on behalf of 27-year-old Karla Steimel in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis.

Steimel has cerebral palsy and other medical needs.

Indiana Lawmakers to Hold Hearing on ISTEP Glitches

The president of the company that administers the ISTEP standardized test to students across Indiana is scheduled to defend her company before a panel of state lawmakers this week.

Nearly 80,000 students were frozen out of the online portion of the test last month because of computer glitches.

CTB/McGraw-Hill President Ellen Haley is scheduled to testify before the legislative panel Friday.

Community Groundbreaking for Downtown Bridge to be Held Tuesday

Federal, state and local officials are inviting the public to take part in a groundbreaking this week for a new downtown Louisville bridge.

The downtown crossing is part of the larger Ohio River Bridges Project, which includes the redesign of the Spaghetti Junction interchange and new bridge in eastern Jefferson County.

Spokeswoman Mindy Peterson says if all goes according to schedule, traffic should be moving on a new downtown bridge in less than three years.

Louisville Cardinals, Indiana Hoosiers 'Living in the Dream' of College World Series

The University of Louisville and Indiana University baseball teams open play against each other in the College World Series tomorrow in Omaha, Nebraska.

It’s the first-ever trip to the eight-team championship for the Hoosiers.

First baseman Sam Travis helped them get there with a home run in last weekend’s victory over Florida State.

UK, GE to Collaborate on Appliances Research

The University of Kentucky has reached an agreement with GE Appliances to collaborate on research aimed at producing innovations in the appliances business.

UK President Eli Capilouto joined GE Appliances executives to announce the collaboration today at the company’s Appliance Park in Louisville.

The agreement also sets terms for the licensing and sharing of jointly developed innovations.

GE Appliances Vice President Kevin Nolan says the partnership will allow the company to tap into the technical expertise of UK scientists and engineers.

Indiana Lawmakers Override Gov. Pence's Veto

Indiana state lawmakers have overridden Gov. Mike Pence’s veto of a tax measure.

The House and Senate both voted today to override Pence’s veto of the bill that allows officials in Pulaski and Jackson counties to retroactively implement a local income tax that had expired.

Even though it was not reauthorized, the counties continued to collect the tax, which is used to fund local jails.

Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame to Induct Seven New Members Thursday

The Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame will induct seven new members tomorrow evening.

They include three-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel, former University of Louisville basketball star Pervis Ellison and tennis champion Julie Ditty.
