Sales of Maker's Mark Pitino Bottle to Benefit Academic Center

One of Kentucky’s best-known bourbon producers is selling thousands more commemorative bottles of its product to raise money for the University of Louisville.

Maker’s Mark is selling 12,600 bottles featuring a photo and tribute to men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino.

Proceeds will to the U of L Center of Excellence, an $8 million facility for student-athletes in all sports that will be built on campus.

Maker’s Mark began producing U of L commemorative bottles last year in support of the center, which will be located at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

U of L's Julie Hermann to Become Rutgers Athletic Director

A person familiar with the decision says Rutgers has hired Julie Hermann from the University of Louisville to be its new athletic director.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the school was still working on an official announcement.

The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., first reported the hire.

Hermann has been the Cardinals' senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator.

She becomes the third female athletic director at a school among the 124 playing at college football's top tier.

Tuition Capped at 3 Percent for Kentucky Public Universities

FRANKFORT — The Council on Postsecondary Education has capped tuition increases at public colleges and universities at 3 percent.

The cap applies to in-state undergraduate students for the upcoming school year.

U of L Center to Host 'Awful Truth About Hazing' Forum

The University of Louisville’s Center on Race and Inequality is holding a public forum on hazing injuries and deaths among student organizations.

In 2011, hazing gained national headlines after Florida A&M University came under sharp scrutiny for the death of marching band member Robert Champion, who was beaten after a football game. The school has suspended its world-famous marching band and prosecutors have pressed misdemeanor charges against more than a dozen students.

UofL Pan-African Studies Professor Ricky L. Jones is director of the center. He says Louisville has also seen violent hazing incidents on its college campuses, which occur more often than people realize.

"We’ve had a number of suspensions over the last decade and a half. We had one student almost die, who suffered from kidney failure in 1997. We’ve had extended suspensions going from seven to ten years of Greek-lettered organizations here," he says. "So it’s not an issue that’s just relegated to Florida A&M and people need to understand that."
