Finalists to be IU Southeast Chancellor to Appear on Campus

The four finalists to be the next chancellor of Indiana Southeast will chat in the next several days with students, faculty, staff and community members.Following the finalists' visits to the New  Albany campus, the search committee will make recommendations to top Indiana University system administrators as to who should replace Sandra Patterson-Randles, who retired last year as IU Southeast's chancellor.The finalists are Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Aldemaro Romero Jr., IU Kokomo's Susan Sciame-Giesecke, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith's Ray Wallace and Radford University's Sam Minner. Here are brief synopses via IU Southeast.

Aldemaro  Romero Jr. 

"Romero has served as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville since 2009, where he is also a professor of biological sciences. Before that he served as the chair of the department of biological sciences at Arkansas State University and as the director and associate professor of the environmental studies program at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. He received his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Miami in Florida."

Susan Sciame-Giesecke"Sciame-Giesecke has served as the interim chancellor at Indiana University Kokomo since September 2012. She is also a professor of communication arts. Previously she served in a variety of capacities at Indiana University Kokomo, including as executive vice chancellor of academic affairs and student affairs, dean of the school of arts and science, and chair of the humanities department. She has a Ph.D. in speech communication from Indiana University Bloomington."

Ray Wallace"Since 2007, Wallace has been the provost and senior vice chancellor at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, where he also holds a professorship in English. Before that appointment, he served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University in Georgia. From 2000 to 2003, he was the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Troy University in Alabama. He received his D.A. in English from Illinois State University."

Sam Minner"Minner has been university provost and vice president for academic affairs at Radford University since 2011. His prior experience includes serving as the founding dean of the School of Health Sciences and Education at Truman State University for 11 years and as the chair of the department of instructional leadership at Northern Arizona University. He holds a Ph.D. in cognitive and behavioral disabilities from the University of Arizona."Romero visits IU Southeast on Tuesday;  Sciame-Giesecke on Thursday; Wallace on Feb. 3; and Minner on Feb. 5. “We want to give people on campus and in the local community every opportunity, or at least a good opportunity, to ask any questions they have and to see the finalists in action, if you will. And to provide some feedback," said Mark Land, a spokesman for Indiana University.Following the campus visits, a selection committee will make a recommendation to top IU system administrators. IU President Michael Robbie will make a recommendation to the system's trustees. Land said  IU's goal is to have a new chancellor in place at IU Southeast by the start of the next academic year.IU administrator Barbara Bichelmeyer is IU Southeast's interim chancellor for this academic year. IU Southeast's enrollment is about 7,000 students.
