Update: Forecastle Festival founder J.K. McKnight spoke to WFPL’s Jonathan Bastian about the line-up. Listen below:
Earlier: OutKast, Jack White and Beck lead the 2014 Forecastle Festival line-up, which also includes newly re-formed alt-rock pioneers The Replacements, Louisville post-rock juggernaut Slint, Band of Horses, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Dwight Yoakam, Spoon, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Ray Lamontagne and Nickel Creek.
All three headliners are making the festival rounds this year, with appearances already announced at Tennessee’s Bonnaroo (White), Chicago’s Pitchfork Fest (Beck), Southern California’s Coachella (OutKast, Beck) and more. Outkast announced a reunion tour of 40 festivals earlier this year. Beck’s new album “Morning Phase” is being hailed as a companion to his elegiac 2002 break-up album “Sea Change.” White has a new solo album reputedly close to release.
Louisville acts included in the lineup so far include Old Baby, Jalin Roze and Seluah.
Last week, the Mayor’s office released the results of a 2013 economic impact study on the festival: $14 million goes into the local economy during the three-day event, including more than $2.13 million spent on hotel rooms in the Louisville area and more than $1.46 million at area bars and restaurants. Last year, about 65,000 people attended the event, and more than 70 percent were from out of town.
Forecastle Festival will be held July 18-20 at Waterfront Park. Weekend passes go on sale at noon Friday for $144.50 via ForecastleFest.com, Ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster outlets. VIP and travel packages will also be available.
Forecastle Festival founder J.K. McKnight will be on Here & Now talking line-ups and more with Jonathan Bastian today on WFPL (89.3 FM) at 1:30 p.m.
