Former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson Among Four Finalist For Transylvania President

Kentucky’s former Secretary of State Trey Grayson has been named one of four finalists for the president position at Transylvania University.

Grayson became director of  Harvard University’s Institute of Politics after losing to Rand Paul in the 2010 Republican U.S. Senate primary. He and four other finalists will visit Transylvania at different times over the next week and a half beginning Sunday. The other finalists include Seamus Carey, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Connecticut’s Sacred Heart University, Michelle Johnston, senior vice president for administrative affairs at Alabama’s University of Montevallo, and Thomas Minar, vice president of development and alumni relations at Washington’s D.C.’s American University.Transylvania’s presidential search committee will make its recommendations to the board of trustees after meeting with the applicants and receiving feedback from students and faculty through an online survey. The board will then discuss those recommendations early next month and officials say a decision could be made by the end of February. The new president will replace Owen Williams who stepped down last year after receiving a vote of no confidence from faculty.
