Freezing Rain, Snow Move Into Louisville Area

Update 3:45 p.m .: 'Significant Accumulation'The National Weather Service has decreased its forecast for ice accumulation for south of the Ohio River, but it's still expecting four to eight inches of snow and sleet. Here's a little more detail:

Mayor Greg Fischer Tweeted that salt truckswill soon start treating city streets.Update 12 p.m.: Latest NWS UpdateThe National Weather Service's latest update on the winter storm expected in the Louisville area doesn't have many changes, except it's now forecasting four to eight inches of snow and sleet for areas south of the Ohio River. Earlier: The Louisville area may get a half-inch of ice and three to seven inches of snow through Monday morning, the National Weather Service said.The weather service is warning of hazardous driving conditions, "substantial" tree damage and downed power lines with the winter storm.The winter storm is moving southeast. Freezing rain is expected to begin in southern Indiana early Sunday and to reach Louisville sometime around 9 a.m., the weather service said. Freezing rain gives way to sleet and then snow starting Sunday evening in southern Indiana and late night Sunday in Louisville.Here's a map from the National Weather Service'slatest update:

The winter weather is forecast to stick around the Louisville area until mid- to late morning Monday, the weather service said.Louisville and surrounding areas are under awinter storm warninguntil 1 p.m. Monday.Road crews from Indiana, Kentucky and Louisville Metro said they're monitoring the situation and are ready to respond.
