Here's The New Farmers Market In The South End

The South Points Farmers Market opened to a rainy morning on Sunday, but farmers and shoppers still made it out to find fresh fruits, vegetables and meats.

It’s only the third time for the South End market, which sets up in the parking lot of the Save-a-Lot Grocery on Taylor Boulevard. The market is modest in its infancy, but organizers say vendors — and crowds — are growing.

"We didn't really know what to expect, but each week it seems like it's gotten better and better," says Emma Coakley, the market manager.

Valley Acre Farm, Burnside Orchard and La Minga Farm were selling a variety of fruits, vegetables and meats on Sunday.

I went and talked to farmers and shoppers about the new market. Listen in the audio player above. The people you'll hear from are, in order:

  • Emma Coakley, market manager
  • Jody Tyree, Valley Acre Farm
  • Karen Hinkle, shopper
  • Nelson Escobar, La Minga Farm
  • Todd Morgan, shopper
