Humana Co-Founder David Jones Gives $1 Million to Louisville Catholic Schools

David A. Jones is giving $1 million to the Catholic Education Foundation of Louisville to help families cover tuition costs for parochial schools.Jones, the co-founder of Humana, said he wanted to provide support for students interested in pursuing an education through the Catholic school system.“The Catholic schools over the years have been very steady and they turn out good product and I just want to help more people have the opportunity to have that kind of education, if they choose it,” he said.The gift will be dispersed over four years.Though Jones did not attend Catholic school he said he is “happy to support them.”“They do a fabulous job,” he said.Jones noted that has also provided funding for JCPS in the past. Jones' son, David Jones Jr., represents District 2on the Jefferson County Board of Education.The Associated Press first reported: Louisville Archbishop Joseph Kurtz says the couple has been among the most generous donors to the foundation, which started in 1996. Foundation president Richard Lechleiter says the gift will allow more families to get help with Catholic school tuition. He says about 20,000 students attend Catholic schools in Louisville.
