Interactive Timeline: The Louisville Cardinals' Path to a New Conference, The ACC

The Louisville Cardinals join the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday—officially landing the school in a stable conference aftera couple of uncertain years.Louisville leaves behind the American Athletic Conference after a single season. Starting with the 2014-15 season, UofL will face conference opponents such as the Duke Blue Devils, North Carolina Tar Heels and the Florida State Seminoles, the reigning college football champions. In November 2012, Louisville's move to the ACCsurprised some local and national sports commentators. But starting Tuesday, UofL is officially in—and with the transition, the school will likely not have to fret anytime soon about the same type of league instability experienced in the Big East.As longtime fans know, UofL has changed conferences a few times over the years—and each league had its own strengths and weaknesses. Here's a brief history of UofL  conference affiliation:Cardinals fans are invited to a a party on Tuesday at Fourth Street Live celebrating the move to the ACC. The event will include mascots from all 15 Atlantic Coast Conference teams. The celebration at 5 p.m. includes performances by the Cardinals' in-stadium DJ and the Louisville Crashers, plus appearances by UofL leaders and ACC Commissioner John Swafford.
