James Launches First Annual 'Light Up California' Event

Seeking to bring a west Louisville neighborhood together, Councilman David James, D-6, is launching the first ever "Light Up California" event. Similar to Light Up Louisville, the event will include live musical performances by the choir of First Gethsemane Baptist Church and the River City Drum Corps. The festivities will also include James welcoming a man playing Santa Claus and other city officials to the event.James says the event is about encouraging unity amongst the resident and promoting public safety in the neighborhood."Light Up California will be a great opportunity for residents of the California neighborhood to come together for a fun evening in the heart of their community. I look forward to starting this new tradition with our friends in California," James said in a news release.Louisville Gas & Electric has partnered with James's office to promote more visibility in the area by donating 250 energy efficient light bulbs that will be given out at the event and throughout the holiday season.James says Metro Police's 2nd Division has also agreed to turn their blue lights on during the evening hours in alleys in the neighborhood. "Public safety is the number one responsibility of Metro Government," says James."I'm thankful for LMPD and LG&E’s assistance in keeping our neighborhood safe."The event is scheduled to begin 5:30 pm on December 3 and will take place at the California Leisure Park located at the corner of Dixie Highway and Kentucky Street.
