Jamie Hyneman Previews 'Mythbusters' Show in Louisville

The principal co-hosts of the Discovery Channel's “Mythbusters” are coming back to Louisville this week. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have a new stage show based on the popular television series, in which they set out to confirm or debunk questions about natural science, urban legends and old sayings.

I recently spoke with Jamie Hyneman about the series and their appearance at the Kentucky Center on Tuesday night.

'Mythbusters' interview

"When people think of us (it's) 'those people who blow things up' and so on, and when we first started considering a stageshow to reach out to our fans and so on, we had some trepidation about doing that because we didn't want to disappoint them," Hyneman said.

"So what we've done instead is recreate the spirit of playful experimentation that we do on the show in a more controlled but also in a more entertaining manner. We involve a lot of people from the audience, bring them up on stage and we get them to do funny stuff in front of the high-speed camera or running these experiments where, basically, we mess with them."

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
