JCPS Prepares for Middle and High School Showcase

Parents and guardians interested in learning more about the options available to their middle and high school students can participate in Jefferson County’s annual Showcase of Schools this week.“Typically what happens at showcase is you have parents who have done a little bit of research but want to really sit down and talk to the people at the schools, learn as much as they can about the programs that are available and make their best decision,” says district spokesman Ben Jackey. The showcase gives parents and students a chance to speak with teachers and staff at schools where they may want to apply and is also a great place for someone who knows nothing about the options available to them, he says.JCPS has made some slight improvements to its online application—the district switched to an online only application process this summer—after hearing feedback from users, he says. This includes slight changes to the School Finder application, which should be more user friendly, Jackey says. The district will also send its mobile registration bus to areas of the city where parents and students have previously waited to apply or register. Jackey says the mobile bus was successful in its first appearance this summer and served hundreds of families.“We’re reaching more parents that in the past were really waiting for the last minute, and so, because it was convenient, because it was in their neighborhood, because it was during hours that were convenient for them we think it was really successful,” he says. The middle and high school showcase will be held Kentucky International Convention Center Hall 2C, Friday, Oct. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 19, between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.The application period for JCPS middle and high schools is between Oct. 21 and Jan. 10. The elementary school showcase will take place at the Kentucky International Convention Center Hall 1AB on Saturday, Nov. 16, between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.Click here to see more information on the school showcase.(Image via Shutterstock)
