Jefferson County Board of Education to Consider Step Toward New School in Norton Commons

Jefferson County Public Schools is considering a formal step toward building a new elementary school.The board of education on Monday night will vote on an application to the state education department for a new school building in northeastern Jefferson County.The move to build a new elementary school stems from a recent review of JCPS current and future facilities needs, said district spokesman Ben Jackey. The review of demographic data showed a need for a new elementary school in northeastern Jefferson County.The Kentucky Department of Education must OK the application, according tostate policy. Once approved, JCPS can hire an architect or engineer to guide the process.The school would be built in the Norton Commons area and cost an estimated $15 million.Here's the agenda for Monday's meeting.
