Jefferson County Public Schools on 2-Hour Delay Wednesday as Cold Follows Snow

(Mini-update: JCPS will have its early childhood education program Wednesday, but no transportation will be provided.)No snow is forecast until at least Wednesday night, and even then the National Weather Service is forecasting only flurries. But, as noted below, very cold temperatures have moved into the Louisville area. The overnight low is forecast to be 4 degrees—and wind chills could reach -1.While we're on the topic: If you missed it earlier, here a chart I put together Tuesday showing the number of missed JCPS school days because of weather going back to 1980.Update 2:45 p.m.: Travelers AdvisoryThe winter storm warning for the Louisville area has expired, but the National Weather Service has issued a travelers advisory in effect Tuesday until midnight.Depending on where you are in the Louisville area, three to seven inches of snow has fallen (see the graphic below), the weather service said.  Snow on Louisville interstates has mostly melted under sunny skies, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said.

The concern has diverted from snowfall to temperatures in the teens Tuesday afternoon and single digits Tuesday night, along with wind gusts as strong as 35 miles per hour, the weather service said.

The weather service is now forecasting three to six inches of snow in or around Louisville. As of 8:25, Trimarcis reportinga handful of traffic accidents on Louisville area interstates. A MetroSafe supervisor says they're getting reports of traffic accidents throughout the city.Update 7:20 a.m.: Schools SituationIndiana University Southeast is closed Tuesday because of the expected weather issues. Check the earlier update for more school closings.Earlier: Jefferson County Public Schools and other school districts will be closed Tuesday because of impending winter weather in the Louisville area.About two inches of snow is forecast for Louisville on Tuesday with more to the north, the National Weather Service said.The snowfall is expected to be heaviest in Louisville between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m., likely causing issues during the morning commute, the weather service said.
