Jennifer Lawrence Nominated for Screen Actors Guild Award

Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence has earned her second Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for outstanding performance by a female actor in a lead role , this time for the comedy Silver Linings Playbook.Lawrence, 22, was nominated in the same category in 2010 for her breakout role in the indie drama Winter's Bone. Natalie Portman won the award, handed out in early 2011, for her performance in Black Swan. Also nominated are Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty, Mario Cotillard for Rust and Bone, Helen Mirren for Hitchcock and Naomi Watts for The Impossible. The SAG Awardsceremony is Jan. 27.Since Winter's Bone, Lawrence has starred in a variety of films, including the indie romantic comedy Like Crazy, the superhero flick X-Men: First Class and the blockbuster The Hunger Games.Lawrence was raised in Louisville until she was 14, when sheleft to pursue an acting career.Silver Linings Playbook also picked up three other nominations: The cast for best ensemble, Bradley Cooper for outstanding male lead and Robert De Niro for outstanding male supporting actor.Argo, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables and Lincoln are the other outstanding ensemble nominees. Lincoln and Les Miserables also have four nominations.Lawrence is considered a frontrunner for this year's Academy Award for best lead actress for Silver Linings Playbook.Glenn Whipp of The Los Angeles Timesin November wrote: "The 22-year-old actress heads this year's lead actress Oscar race by a country mile."And the last installment of Movieline.com's Oscars Index has her as the leader, too, but tempers the ranking with words on Chastain: Critics are besotted with Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) but she will have formidable competition in Jessica Chastain, also a previous Oscar-nominee, who has distinguished herself in supporting roles and is poised to finally reap the rewards.Considering that The Hunger Games is this year's third-highest grossing film in the U.S., Lawrence is having a pretty good year career-wise.Lawrence was also nominated for the 2011 Academy Award for Winter's Bone. Of that, in 2011, she told me when I wrote for The Courier-Journal: There's not really anything to be nervous about,” she said. “If I did get nominated it would be really exciting. And if I didn't — I had the possibility of getting nominated for an Oscar at 20. Like, either way, I'm good. “Once I finally got up, it was sort of exciting just having all my friends there. It was just kind of fun.”
