KCTCS Trustees to Release Details of Outgoing President Michael McCall's Emeritus Duties

Alix Mattingly/WFPL News

This story has been updated.

The Kentucky Community & Technical College System trustees will meet Friday afternoon and review and release details regarding the duties of outgoing President Michael McCall.

McCall begin a one-year term of president emeritus on Friday. Already one of the highest-paid community college administrators in the country, McCall received a contract that would pay him about $324,000 during his year as emeritus.

That deal raised eyebrows among members of the KCTCS community, which is currently facing cutbacks and tuition hikes. The system will release details of his emeritus duties following the meeting in Versailles.

Louisville Public Media's Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting revealed the pay package and emeritus deal last year.

KyCIR added:
McCall, 66, one of the highest paid community college system administrators in the nation, received total compensation of $641,699 in 2013. It included a $317,962 base salary, a $78,509 bonus and a $90,000 housing allowance. He also receives an automobile allowance of $3,600 per month, or $43,200 per year. All with taxpayers’ and students’ dollars.
The contract stipulates that McCall would perform duties “as requested” by his successor, Jay Box, the system's chancellor. Box will earn about $30,000 less than McCall.

CORRECTION: This story has been updated. An earlier version of the story incorrectly reported that new KCTCS President Jay Box would be paid $30,000 less than what Michael McCall will receive as president emeritus. That comparison was based on Box's current salary as KCTCS chancellor. His salary as president has not yet been finalized.

The earlier version also reported that the trustees would "nail down" the emeritus duties. They are reviewing the duties, but not voting on the matter.
