Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting Seeks Managing Editor and Four Reporters

Louisville Public Media (LPM), which operates the city’s three public radio stations, has secured funding to establish the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, which will pursue high-quality, high-impact investigative journalism in the public interest. The investigative mission of the center will be to help seek protection for society’s most vulnerable citizens; to assist in exposing wrongdoing by government officials as well as those in the private sector; while also endeavoring to increase the transparency of their actions; and to aid in the search for solutions to the most pressing problems of the day; be they environmental, economic, political, judicial or educational. The reporting will be widely distributed on radio, web, and print, and will be amplified through partnerships with other news organizations.

LPM is seeking a dynamic leader and experienced journalist to serve as the MANAGING EDITOR of the new operation, with responsibility for all editorial content, production, and distribution. The managing editor is a member of the LPM management team, reports to the president of LPM, and works cooperatively with LPM’s director of news and editorial strategy.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of journalism experience coupled with strong supervisory skills, a background in investigative journalism; knowledge of computer-assisted reporting techniques and emerging technologies; and the ability to serve as a spokesperson and raise funds in support of the organization. A master’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

LPM is also searching for REPORTERS (4) who will work under the supervision of the managing editor to produce investigative reporting adhering to the highest standards of journalistic fairness, accuracy, and integrity. At least five years of journalism experience is required with a strong record of investigative journalism which has produced results. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with a willingness to work cooperatively in a team setting. A four-year degree in journalism or equivalent required.

Interested candidates should send letter, resume and work samples to Human Resources, Louisville Public Media, 619 S. Fourth Street, Louisville, Kentucky, 40202 or email materials to resume@louisvillepublicmedia.org.
