Kentucky Education Department Offers School Districts New ACT Test Dates Snow Days

Jefferson County Public School officials will not delay state mandated ACT testing for high school juniors. The Kentucky Education Department recently distributed a survey to school districts to find out whether the large number of snow days this academic year have harmed  test preparation.  With the surveys returned, state education officials to offer two options for test dates. School districts will have the opportunity to keep the original testing dates—March 4 with a March 18 make-up date—or choose to administer the test only on March 18 with no make-up date.Erica Thompson, assessment coordinator for JCPS, said the decision to stay with the original date was made  districtwide.“We have thousands of kids.  If we don’t have a make-up day we are going to lose a lot of student opportunity,” Thompson said.  “We needed that make up day.”In a statement released by Kentucky Department of Education, schools choosing to keep the original date will need to take no action and ACT materials will be delivered on March 4.  Other districts that choose the lone test date of March 18 must notify the state education department by Tuesday evening. The education department will be monitoring attendance rates during ACT testing to ensure accordance with state law, which mandates all juniors take the test.(Image via Shutterstock)
