A Kentucky lawmaker wants to rename a stretch of highway in Nelson County to honor Jason Ellis, the Bardstown Police officer ambushed and murderedon duty in May.A 13 mile stretch of the Bluegrass Parkway from 31-E to Highway 55, would be renamed the "Jason Ellis Memorial Highway," said State Rep. David Floyd, a Bardstown Republican. Floyd said it won't make up for the community's loss, but it's a fitting tribute.He introduced the legislation after a number of requests from his constituents.Ellis was a resident of Nelson County and routinely traveled the route Rep. Floyd hopes to establish in his memory. He was found on the ramp at exit 34, where the memorial highway is set to end.Rep. Floyd said he firmly believes the bill will pass.No arrests have been made relating to Ellis' murder, but authorities continue to search for suspects. More than $200,000 is being offered as a reward for tips leading to an arrest."His brothers and sisters in the police force always encourage us to never forget Jason," said Rep. Floyd.
