Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen to Make Decision on Governor's Race in 'Coming Weeks,' AP Says

Kentucky state Auditor Adam Edelen will announce his plans regarding a 2015 bid for governor in the "coming weeks," The Associated Press reports.Edelen's office has generated attention in recent weeks for his focus on education. Last week, he unveiled the results of an audit of Jefferson County Public Schools. Among other findings, the audit said the school district's administration was "bloat." This week, Edelen's office moved to review the Fayette County school district after allegations of financial mismanagement. The AP reports: Edelen's audits could be risky, given the volatile nature of local school board politics. At least two Jefferson County school board members have publicly criticized Edelen for using the powers of his office for political purposes. Board member Linda Duncan said it was telling that Edelen's Jefferson County audit only looked at the administrators, and not the teachers - who she says are backed by a powerful union that Edelen would need if he were to run for governor.Edelen, a Democrat, was elected auditor in 2011. Democratic Attorney Jack Conway and former Republican Louisville Metro Councilman Hal Heinerhave entered the 2015 governor's race.
