Kentucky State Police has reopened its investigation into the document shredding by former Legislative Research Commission executive director Bobby Sherman.The Courier-Journal reported Wednesday that the new probe into Sherman's shredding of work documents.Sherman resigned in September amid controversy over his handling of the sexual harassment scandal surrounding formerstate Rep. John Arnold, a Sturgis Democrat.
The reopened investigation will include an examination of the contents of Sherman's computer that state police did not examine during its initial seven-month investigation.From the C-J: The investigative record, reviewed by The Courier-Journal last week after being obtained under the Kentucky Open Records Act, showed that the investigator questioned the four LRC employees with Sherman the day of the shredding and that Sherman declined to be interviewed. One of those interviewed, LRC Deputy Director Robert Jenkins, told Det. Vincent Schmitt that Sherman said the morning of his resignation that he had accidentally deleted files from his computer. Jenkins also said an LRC technology expert had restored the files the following Monday. Schmitt asked to take the computer itself, and Jenkins signed a consent form turning it over to the investigator. But the state police closed the investigation — finding no evidence of any criminal violation — without looking at the computer.
