Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Launches New Data Website

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has created a new website meant to improve access to its data. The DataMart includes state highway traffic counts, county-by-county spending numbers, road project information, traffic fatality data and more.It can be accessed here.Transportation Cabinet spokesman Chuck Wolfe said the website was created in part because of a new federal highway accountability mandate. The information was previously available on the cabinet's website, but Wolfe said users had a difficult time finding it. Now, it's all available in a single place.“You really had to know where to look on the cabinet’s website," Wolfe said. "It’s a pretty dense website. It has a lot of information on there and it’s not easy to navigate, in my humble opinion.”Some of the graphics are difficult to read or take some time to load—Wolfe noted that the website is still evolving and may have bugs. He urged people to report issues and offer feedback on the portal.“The information can be very local, it can be statewide," Wolfe said. "Also it’s a work in progress, the website is evolving." But, he said the general idea is to give people easier access to information about Kentucky's highway work.
