The logo design contest for Louisville’s new professional soccer team has begun.

Last week, franchise owners officially announced that the Orlando City SC franchise would relocate to Louisville starting in spring 2015. Louisville City Football Club will play in the United Soccer Leagues PRO, an affiliate to Major League Soccer comparable to AA baseball.

The logo below was unveiled around the same time—and fans took to social media to critique (and, in some cases, blast ) the design. Some social media users even offered alternate designs. 

Owners of the soon-to-be Louisville City FC decided to let fans design the logo.

The team will accept entries until June 17.

The stipulations:  All concepts must incorporate a fleur de lis, a bourbon barrel, the color purple and be in the shape of a badge or crest.  The name of the soccer team, Louisville City Football Club, must also be a part of the design.

(A note: St. Louis’ new expansion team in USL PRO  will also sport a fleur de lis on their logo.)

The team also has detailed stipulations on how designs should be presented—they want hard copies presented in a specific manner. For more information on the contest, go here.

Entries should be mailed or delivered to 127 S. Sixth St. in Louisville; all entries will become property of the Louisville City FC.

The winning design will be decided by fan votes and be announced on June 22.  The winning designer will get a $500 stipend. The designer will also be recognized at the team’s inaugural game at Slugger Field, and in the team’s program for the first season.
