Louisville Cardinals Basketball Teams to be Pegasus Parade Grand Marshals

The Louisville Cardinals men's and women's basketball teams will be grand marshals for the 2013 Republic Bank Pegasus Parade. The Kentucky Derby Festival began a social media campaign earlier this week to attract the teams—as the men's team won the NCAA national championshipand the women's teamplayed in the title game."Having both teams make it to the championship game has rallied our city and we couldn't think of a better way to honor them than asking both teams to participate in what is undeniably one of the biggest events in the city each year," said festival President and CEO Mike Berry in a statement.Last year, Kentucky Wildcats' men's basketball coach John Calipari and his coaching staff served as honorary grand marshals after that team won the 2012 national championship. This year, UofL's marching band will also participate in the parade, the university says. The pep squad and cheerleaders have also been invited to participate. The Pegasus Parade will be May 2.An estimated 250,000 people showed up for the 2012 parade.
