The Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team won the Big East Tournament on Saturday—and likely a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. And possibly the No. 1 overall seed.
U of L defeated the Syracuse Orange 78-61 in the final Big East Tournament before the conference’s seven Catholic universities split and several other teams leave as well, including the Cardinals in 2014.
The Cardinals trailed by 13 at halftime but were able to pull away behind forward Montrezl Harrell’s 20 points and seven rebounds.
The Indiana Hoosiers were also being projected as a No. 1 seed, despite losing Saturday to the Wisconsin Badgers in the semifinals of the Big 10 Tournament.
The Kentucky Wildcats, who lost Friday night to Vanderbilt in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, are not projected among the NCAA Tournament’s 68 teams.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, winners of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, were projected as a No. 16 seed by CBS Sports and a No. 15 seed by ESPN.
