Louisville Environmental Activist Wins National Award

Louisville resident Kathy Little has been selected to receive a national award from theSierra Club for her activism opposing the coal-fired Cane Run Power Plant.Little has lived across the street from the Cane Run Power Station in southwest Louisville for decades. But in recent years, she’s organized residents and challenged utility company Louisville Gas and Electricon its handling of coal ash at the site.Last year, LG&E announced it would retire the plant in 2016 and replace it with natural gas. The company says this decision was economically-motivated, but the Sierra Club gives some of the credit to Little and her activism.Little was awarded the group's Special Achievement Award during a ceremony in San Francisco over the weekend. The award is given to individual Sierra Club members or groups that have undertaken a single act of particular importance to the organization.
