Louisville Gas and Electric is asking for permission from state regulators to expand five of its energy efficiency programs and introduce a new one. The company filed to make the changes last week with the Public Service Commission.In the PSC filing, LG&E is asking for authorization to expand some of its current energy efficiency programs…like increasing the number of rebates available for certain appliances and adding more incentives for customers to make energy upgrades to homes after getting a home energy audit.LG&E spokeswoman Liz Pratt says the company has seen incredible response to existing initiatives, which so far, have reduced electricity demand by 330 megawatts.“This is a significant amount of demand reduction that our customers have achieved, so we want to continue this momentum,” she said.And the company is also proposing an entirely new program: a voluntary advanced meter. The high-tech meter paired with an online portal would help people track their energy usage in real-time through an online portal.If that program is approved, it will only be available for the first 5,000 LG&E customers to request one.Pratt says if the PSC approves all of the changes, it’ll raise the average LG&E customer’s monthly bill by 50 cents.
