Louisville Metro Council Members to Call for Removal of Barbara Shanklin

Louisville Metro Council members are forming a charging committee to hold a removal trial against Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin, sources confirmed to WFPL.Earlier this month, the Metro Ethics Commission recommended Shanklin's ouster after finding her to have violated provisions of the city's ethics law.An announcement is expected later Wednesday afternoon. Five Metro Council members are required to sign a petition to begin the removal process of a fellow lawmaker; which council members are forming the charging committee is not yet known.We'll update this story when more information becomes available.Update 3 p.m.: Names of Metro Council Members Forming CommitteeThe Metro Council members who are forming the charging committee are Democrats Madonna Flood, Vicki Aubrey Welch and Tina Ward-Pugh, plus Republicans James Peden and Jerry Miller, sources said.Update 3:10  p.m.: News Conference PlannedThe charging committee will talk to reporters at 3:45 p.m. WFPL's Phillip Bailey will be sending updates viaTwitter, and this story will be updated, too.Update 4:15 p.m.: Prosecuting Attorney NamedAttorney David Tachau will prosecute the removal trial against Shanklin. He says he will subpoena Shanklin to testify.
