Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer plans to double the size of the city’s Office of Sustainability, from one to two employees.A year-and-a-half ago, Fischer hired Maria Koetter to run the city’s nascent office …and to be its only employee. But the recently-approved Metro budget included funding for an additional position. So now the mayor's office is looking for asustainability project coordinator.Fischer spokesman Chris Poynter says the extra help is necessary as the city works to implement the provisions in the sustainability plan released earlier this year.“We have a very aggressive plan to really take a big leap to make our city more sustainable, a greener city,” he said. “So as we began to look at what are the resources we have to implement that plan, it was pretty clear that we needed some more assistance. To make sure the plan is implemented they’ll be working with external agencies, houses of worship, businesses, schools, so we can make sure this plan doesn’t just sit on the shelf, that it becomes a real breathing document that really guides how we make our city greener.”The new hire will earn a salary of about $45,000 a year, which was approved by council members last June in the most recent Metro budget. The city is also looking to hire an urban forestry coordinator to help revitalize Louisville’s tree canopy.
